I recently came across this Youtube by Britt Hartley of No Nonsense Spirituality. This video and approach may help both professionals and people considering AA as a support in their sobriety journey,
The fellowship itself does not require a belief in a “God-daddy in the sky” as Britt describes this, as I have noted in another blog post — The God Word does not make a religion. However, Britt is approaching this topic from the angle of AA as it started in the 1930s evolving out of a back to basic Christianity movement called the Oxford Groups, to become an autonomous fellowship or recovery community.
Britt Hartley is a certified atheist spiritual director with a Master’s in Theology focusing on the future of American religion. She wrote the bestselling book No Nonsense Spirituality: All the Tools, No Faith Required. If you’re struggling with existential crises, nihilism, or feeling lost in meaninglessness.
Note: I would prefer to use the term “ethical” rather than “moral” inventory as a more modern expression of what a person is doing in assessing themselves.
